How to:  Certify and/or Register your IOM Boat

 

To race your International One Metre Class Radio Sailing Yacht, it must be registered with the IOM GBR Class Association.

Here is an easy to follow flow chart showing the process you need to follow to

get your new or used boat registered, including how to get it measured and certified.

Registration process FAQ

My Boat is brand new, never been used and a home build


Contact the IOM Registrar Nick Cowern by telephone or email for a boat registration number. You will need the following details:

  • Name of the boat model design
  • Name of the Designer
  • Name of Builder
  • MYA membership number and Name of Home club
  • Hull Number and Builders name (both must be permanently and indelibly marked, and located in a readily seen place on the inside of the hull).
  • Once a registration number has been issued, you MUST have your boat measured (within 12 months of build date).
  • Send the completed Certification Control document signed by the measurer to the IOM Registrar Nick Cowern with a SAE. A registration certificate will be issued and the process is complete.

NOTE: Remember to include an SAE




My Boat is brand new, never been used and bought from a manufacturer


Contact the IOM Registrar Nick Cowern by telephone or email to for a boat registration number. You will need the following details:

  • Name of the Boat model design
  • Name of the Designer
  • Name of Builder
  • MYA membership number and Name of Home club
  • The Hull Number and builders name (both must be permanently and indelibly marked, and located in a readily seen place on the inside of the hull).
  • Once a registration number has been issued, you MUST have your boat measured (within 12 months of build date).
  • Send the completed Certification Control document signed by the measurer to the IOM Registrar Nick Cowern with and SAE. A registration certificate will be issued and the process is complete.

My Boat is pre-loved, and I have a registration certificate


Please send the following to the IOM Registrar Nick Cowern.

  1. Complete the ‘change of ownership’ section on the certificate. Post it with:
  2. Your Name
    Postal Address
    Email Address
    MYA membership number
    Name of your Home Club
  3. Stamped Addressed Envelope (SAE)

No additional measurement is required

NOTE: Remember to include an SAE




My Boat is pre-loved without registration certificate


Complete the change of ownership form: https://mya-uk.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Change-of-Ownership-Form-2019..pdf

and forward to the IOM Registrar: Nick Cowern with a SAE for the return of the new certificate.

NOTE: Remember to include an SAE




My Boat is an imported pre-loved boat with registration certificate


Contact the IOM Registrar Nick Cowern and request a GBR registration number.

Complete the contact details including your MYA number on the lower section of the existing certificate and forward to the IOM Registrar – no additional measurement is required.

My Boat is an imported pre-loved boat without registration certificate


Contact the IOM Registrar Nick Cowern and request a GBR registration number.
You will need the following details:

  • Name of the Boat model name
  • Name of the Designer
  • Name of Builder
  • MYA membership number and Name of Home club
  • Hull Number and Date of build (both must be permanently and indelibly marked, and located in a readily seen place on the inside of the hull).
  • Once a registration number has been issued, you MUST have your boat measured (within 12 months of build date).
  • Send the measurers form to the IOM Registrar Nick Cowern with a SAE. A registration certificate will be issued and the process is complete.
